Budapest Day 3

Budapest is absolutely beautiful - the trees are all starting to flower.

Inky, slightly zombiefied boarded a little blue schoolbus at 7:50 this morning, accompanying Cousin Sarah to the American School, a gorgeous facility that makes the middle school I'm so taken with in the East Village look like the set of Welcome Back Kotter.

Milo continues to sprawl in the middle of the bed that was given to me and Greg. He will sleep til noon if we let him.

Greg thinks we should go to the Museum of Military History. I think we should go to the Museum of Commerce and Catering. It may be time to divide and conquer.

Yesterday was my 42nd birthday. We went to a wonderful bathhouse that has heated outdoor pools, one of which has a sort of whirlpool vortex, strong enough to endanger one's stretched-out bikini bottoms as one goes through the spin cycle with several field trips' worth of jacked-up, pimpled teenagers. Milo achieved his dream of playing chess in the bathhouse, just like an old Hungarian man.

Thusfar the children have found nothing they're interested in eating, even the wonderful chocolate sacher torte my sister-in-law purchased for my birthday. They objected to the apricot jam, which was what made it good.

I'm glad that you all made it safely and are having fun. I would have been all over the apricot jam, as apricots are my favorite.

Happy Birthday, A.

Happy Birthday! What a memorable place to celebrate it in. Love, love, love Budapest~ my favorite stop during my college backpacking days. Have heard some wonderfully progressive things about raising kids in Hungary.... Ahhh, have yet to be back on a plane going overseas since having my three kids (4 year old twins & 1 yr old). My husband & I met while serving in the Peace Corps in Asia after both traveling & living abroad even before our service. You inspire us! HAPPY TRAVELS.

Wait, you're making Inky go to school? What's up with that? I thought this was a vacation!

Happy birthday! (Loved the latest EVI, BTW - I think it arrived in my mailbox the same day you skipped the country.)

thank you nice ladies!
now I'm going out to dinner.
yes yes, will publish photos - i should do it here in the lap of luxury b/c Monday we move on to Slovenia.
i will check out Sarah's teacher's name. A bit of drama between the girls b/c Inky bonded hard w/ a kid Sarah's had lots of friction with...and so it begins...
milo happily pouring boiling arrows and shooting flaming arrows from the Fisherman's Bastion in the Bar. And he ate all of his chicken cutlet.

Happy Birthday from a long-time E.V.I. reader! I admire your bravery in travel with children. So far I've taken my 5 and 6-year old to France for a month...nothing like your Balkan adventure (but VERY good eating, no problems there!).
Looking forward to reading more!

Happy belated, Miss Ayunnie! Nothing like a birthday in a former Communist bloc nation--passed my 20th in Krakow. Of course, you're the one who wrapped up her third decade on earth in an unheated bus in Transylvania...
